August 13, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Today's Game: The Aces (61-58) enter game one of a three-game series against the Sacramento River Cats after dropping two in a row against Las Vegas. Aces skipper Greg Gross will send right-hander Taylor Clarke to the mound who comes in with a record of 11-7 on the season. Clarke has won each of his last three starts and has not lost a contest since July 6th. Reno is seven games back of the first-place Fresno Grizzlies with 21 games remaining.
Last Game: The Aces dropped a seven-inning contest to the Las Vegas 51's Sunday night by a score of 3-1. Joel Payamps was great on the mound for Reno despite picking up the loss. Payamps struck out seven in five innings of work and allowed just two earned runs. The offense, however, was held in check. Reno tallied just four hits and plated one on a Christian Walker solo home run. Walker's solo blast was his 17th home run of the season.
Streaking: Ildemaro Vargas saw his historic hit streak come to an end Sunday night. After hitting safely in 35 consecutive games, Vargas' 0-for-3 performance ended the Venezuela natives run. His 35 consecutive games with a streak is an Aces franchise record and good for 5th all-time in Pacific Coast League history. During the streak, Vargas hit .363 (57-for-157) with 11 doubles, 2 3B, 1 HR, 15 RBI and had an OBP of .408.

Jake Buchanan (10) is tied for third in the PCL with 10 wins. Kevin Cron sits in second place in the PCL with 85 RBI and a slugging percentage of .593 despite not playing in his first game until May 4th.
Snow in August: On this date in 2004, Giants first baseman J.T. Snow belted three home runs in a game against the Philidelphia Phillies. His three home runs on August 13th made up 25% of his yearly total. The light-hitting first baseman went deep in the first inning with a two-run dinger off starter Brett Myers, and then delivered solo shots off relievers in the fifth and seventh frames.
CO: Since joining the Reno Aces, Chris Owings has been on fire. In five games, Owings is batting .455 with 10 hits, seven runs scored and three RBI. Owings trails only Ildemaro Vargas (11) in hits over the past 10 games despite only playing in half. Owings was the 2013 Pacific Coast League MVP with the Aces and has played the previous four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Walker's Bombs: With a home run last night, Christian Walker has now hit 49 homers in an Aces uniform. He is one shy of Peter O'Brien's mark of 50 and is alone in fourth all-time in Aces franchise history. Brandon Allen (55), Mike Jacobs (55) and O'Brien (50) are the only players with more.
Who's Next: With September looming and call-ups likely, many on the Jackson Generals roster could find themselves in the Biggest Little City very soon. Jon Duplantier, the D-backs number one prospect, is 4-1 with the Generals this season and boasts a 2.14 ERA in nine starts. Tyler Widener, the D-backs number three prospect, is 5-5 with the Generals over 22 starts and has struck out 151 in 119.1 innings of work. Kevin Medrano is batting .337 in 77 games and Rudy Flores has hit 14 home runs this season, second most on the double-A roster.
Looking for Blood: In conjunction with United Blood Services, the Aces are hosting their second annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive at Greater Nevada Field. On August, 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., all donors can receive Aces swag and save up to three lives in the process.
