Schwindel's Hit Streak Reaches 20, Chasers Fall 10-5
August 13, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha first baseman Frank Schwindel extended his hit streak to 20 games with three hits, including his Pacific Coast League leading 30th and 31st doubles of the season, and Storm Chasers catcher Cam Gallagher drove in two runs, however Oklahoma City left fielder Kyle Garlick drove in three runs in the Dodgers' 10-5 victory on Monday evening at Werner Park.
After Monday's matchup, the Storm Chasers have now welcomed 2,996,544 fans into Werner Park since the franchise's first game there on April 16, 2011. The club is expected to welcome their Three Millionth Fan prior to Tuesday evening's contest.
Entering the night with 29 doubles, Schwindel added to his total and upped his hit streak to 20 with a double down the left field line in the fourth. Omaha would follow Schwindel with three consecutive RBI doubles from Gallagher, RF Elier Hernandez and LF Donnie Dewees to cut Oklahoma City's early four-run lead to 4-3. 3B Humberto Arteaga then delivered a game-tying run-scoring single to center to even the contest at four.
The two teams would trade single tallies in the seventh, including an RBI single from Gallagher to plate Schwindel after his second two-bagger of the evening, however the Dodgers grabbed the lead back with a run in the eighth prior to striking with a four-spot in the ninth. Garlick capped Oklahoma City's scoring with his bases-clearing triple to the center field wall.
Schwindel's (3-5, 2 R, 2 2B) three knocks led all batters, with Gallagher (2-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI) and 2B Jack Lopez (2-4) adding two hits apiece for Omaha. Along with Garlick (2-5, R, 3B, 3 RBI), SS Kyle Farmer (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB) and 3B Edwin Rios (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB) each posted multi-hit efforts as well. Schwindel during his 20-game hit streak has compiled a .388 average (33-85), adding 17 runs, 12 doubles, six home runs and 16 RBI.
Neither Omaha starter Zach Lovvorn (6.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K) nor Oklahoma City's Zach Neal (5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 4 K) factored in the final decisions. Dodgers reliever Brian Schlitter (0.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER) earned the win, while Storm Chasers righty Josh Staumont (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their four-game set on Tuesday night at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. Omaha is anticipated to give the ball to LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (6-8, 3.58), while Oklahoma City is set to send RHP Daniel Corcino (2-3, 3.68) to the hill.
Tickets are still available for all remaining 2018 Storm Chasers contests, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
