Ildemaro Vargas' Hit Streak Ends at 35 in Aces Loss
August 13, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Las Vegas, NEV. - Ildemaro Vargas had quite the ride - hitting safely in 35 consecutive games entering Sunday night's contest in Las Vegas. Vargas' 35-game hit streak was not only the longest in franchise history, but also the longest by any modern-era player in the Pacific Coast League since 1989. The Venezuela native went 0-for-3 in tonight's seven-inning contest to in-state rival Las Vegas. Right-hander Joel Payamps was dominant, striking out seven in five innings of work. However, Las Vegas got to Payamps in the bottom of the first inning and the offense never recovered. Christian Walker blasted his 17th home run of the season and scored the Aces only run of the evening. Reno will return to Greater Nevada Field tomorrow night to take on the Sacramento River Cats at 7:05 p.m.
