Dodgers Close Out Series with 9-0 Win

Oklahoma City - A five-run first inning kick-started the Oklahoma City Dodgers offense and the Dodgers pitching staff held the Memphis Redbirds to two hits in a 9-0 shutout win Sunday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart (3-2) tied his career high, pitching 7.1 shutout innings for his third win with Oklahoma City this season. He allowed two hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Relievers Stetson Allie and Michael Johnson combined for 1.2 scoreless innings to complete the shutout, as the Dodgers allowed a season-low two hits.
Dodgers outfielder Alex Verdugo collected three extra-base hits, including a solo homer in the eighth inning, scored three runs and finished with two RBI to lead Oklahoma City's offense. Infielder Jake Peter also finished with three hits for Oklahoma City, while infielder Edwin RÃ-os drove in two runs.
With the win in the series finale between the teams, the Dodgers (62-54) avoided a series sweep and snapped a five-game losing skid.
After a delay of two hours due to rain, the Dodgers took a 5-0 lead in the first inning against the Redbirds (74-45).
Tim Locastro led off with a walk for Oklahoma City and scored when Verdugo followed with a RBI double to right field. Donovan Solano reached on an error before Andrew Toles lined a single into right field to score Verdugo. Memphis right fielder Justin Williams' throw to third base was offline and Solano scored for a 3-0 lead. Edwin RÃ-os followed with a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning and a 4-0 lead, and later with two outs, Jake Peter connected on a RBI single for a five-run lead.
Locastro doubled to lead off the second inning for the Dodgers. He advanced to third base on a groundout by Verdugo and scored on a passed ball for a 6-0 advantage.
RBI singles by Solano and RÃ-os extended Oklahoma City's lead to 8-0 in the fourth inning.
Verdugo belted a solo homer down the right-field line to push Oklahoma City's lead to 9-0 in the eighth inning as the Dodgers collected their eighth shutout win of the season and tallied 14 hits on the night.
Stewart matched his career high for innings pitched, last tossing 7.1 innings May 27, 2016 with Double-A Tulsa against Midland.
Memphis starting pitcher Jake Woodford (3-3) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) and 11 hits over 4.0 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
The Dodgers last held an opponent to two hits June 3, 2017 against Colorado Springs in a game that was called due to rain in the bottom of the sixth inning in OKC. The Dodgers last held an opponent to two hits in a nine-inning game April 24, 2017 in a 3-0 win against the Redbirds at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Sunday marked the final regular-season meeting of the season between the teams, as Memphis won the season series, 10-6.
The Dodgers next open a four-game road series against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Werner Park.
