Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - Led by five sterling innings from spot starter Daniel Corcino, four Oklahoma City Dodgers pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to lead the way to a 6-0 win in the team's series opener against the Memphis Rebirds at AutoZone Park Monday night.

The Dodgers and Redbirds entered Monday as two of the four teams across Minor League Baseball that had accrued at least 17 wins, and it was the Dodgers who controlled the game from start to finish. With Monday's victory, the Dodgers won a sixth straight game and improved to 18-4, tying the team's most wins ever in April. The 2008 team also won 18 games in the opening month, but finished with an 18-9 record.

After Brock Stewart was recalled by the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, Corcino (2-0) stepped in to make his first start of the season. He delivered five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit - a one-out single by Yairo Munoz in the fifth inning. Corcino retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced, with one batter reaching via error, and 15 of 17 batters faced overall. Working primarily in the bullpen during the last few seasons, Monday marked Corcino's longest outing since Sept. 17, 2014 when he started for the Cincinnati Reds against the Chicago Cubs and tossed 5.2 innings. He did not issue a walk and notched three strikeouts.

Additionally, Corcino went 2-for-3 at the plate. Dodgers pitchers entered Monday with one total hit for the season.

Emmanuel De Leon, Joe Broussard and Pat Venditte covered the final four innings and kept Memphis off the scoreboard to complete the team's first shutout of 2018. The Redbirds (17-8) led off each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings with a single but could not produce a run. For the game, the Dodgers held Memphis 0-for-11 with runners on base, and the Redbirds only had two runners advance into scoring position.

The quartet of Dodgers pitchers recorded six strikeouts and did not allow a walk for a second straight game. Monday also marked the first time this season the Dodgers did not yield and extra-base hit.

Travis Taijeron put the Dodgers ahead early when he connected on his first home run of the season. With a runner on, Taijeron went opposite field into the Dodgers bullpen in right-center field to give OKC the 2-0 advantage.

Taijeron further added to his highlight reel in the bottom of the second inning. Rangel Ravelo led off with a deep drive to right-center field, but Taijeron made a leaping catch, crashed into the wall and held on to the ball for the first out.

Jake Peter followed Taijeron's lead in the fourth inning. He also went deep for the first time this season, sending an opposite field line drive onto the bluff in left field to make it 3-0.

The Dodgers kept it rolling later in the inning, collecting three straight hits with two outs. After singles by Corcino and Tim Locastro, Donovan Solano brought both in to score with a double down the third base line.

After Solano's double, the Memphis pitching staff settled down, retiring the next 12 consecutive hitters. But with two outs in the eighth inning, the Dodgers rallied to tack on their final run of the night. Peter drew a walk, and Angelo Mora and Rocky Gale followed with singles to make it a 6-0 lead.

Memphis pitcher Kevin Herget was also making a spot start but didn't fare nearly as well as Corcino. Herget (1-2) allowed two runs and five hits over three innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Dodgers look for a seventh straight win when they continue their series against the Redbirds at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at AutoZone Park. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
