Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - O'Koyea Dickson and Elliot Johnson each homered to guide the Oklahoma City Dodgers to an 8-3 win against the Iowa Cubs Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The win closed out a five-game series, as well as the season series, between the American Northern Division teams in front of a crowd of 4,839.
Oklahoma City won the current series, 4-1, and took the season series, 12-4.
The Dodgers improved to 85-55 with the win, and now have the most wins ever by an Oklahoma City team in a single season since the team joined the league in 1998.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Buck Britton led off with a double, then scored on a RBI single by Ronny Torreyes.
The Dodgers went ahead, 3-0, in the fifth inning. With Elliot Johnson on first base, O'Koyea Dickson drilled a two-run homer onto the Budwesier Deck in left field for a three-run advantage. The homer was Dickson's 13th of the season. The Dodgers then added a run on a fielder's choice and a throwing error to take a 4-0 lead.
A RBI single by Emilio Bonifacio put the I-Cubs on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, cutting Oklahoma City's lead to 4-1.
Johnson answered in the bottom of the sixth inning, belting a two-run homer to left field - his third of the season - to boost the Dodgers to a 6-1 lead.
The I-Cubs added a run on a sacrifice fly by Chris Valaika to cut the score to 6-2 in the seventh inning.
Iowa brought home another run in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch from Carlos Frias.
The Dodgers extended to an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on RBI singles by Johnson and Britton.
Johnson led all players with three hits and three RBI. He also scored two runs.
Oklahoma City starting pitcher Zach Lee (11-6) earned his team-leading 11th victory of the season, allowing two runs and seven hits over seven innings. He did not issue a walk and recorded five strikeouts.
Iowa starter Eric Jokisch (5-4) took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs and eight hits over six innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out five OKC batters.
The Dodgers continue their final homestand of the regular season and open a four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks, presented by squeezeeverydrop.com, are scheduled to follow the game.
Tickets for the remainder of the Dodgers' regular season games, as well as the first round of the playoffs, are available through the box office on S. Mickey Mantle Drive, by calling (405) 218-1000, or ordering through okcdodgers.com.
