El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
Jason Hagerty hit a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to help the El Paso Chihuahuas defeat Las Vegas 2-1 Wednesday night at Cashman Field. The Chihuahuas are back to within a half-game of first place with six games remaining in the regular season.
Veteran right-handed starters Chris Smith and Tim Stauffer matched one other inning for inning, with both departing in or after the seventh, while allowing just one run each. The Chihuahuas left multiple runners on base in the sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth innings trying to break the tie. Hagerty's go-ahead homer was his fourth longball with El Paso since a mid-season promotion from Double-A.
The Chihuahuas and 51s have met seven times since early August and six of the seven games were decided by one run.
Jay Jackson pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 11th inning to collect his 13th save. The win sealed a season series win for El Paso over Las Vegas, giving the Chihuahuas the tiebreaker advantage if the two teams finish the year with the same record.
