Doc Deals, Sky Carp Win Third Straight
July 6, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Thanks to five shutout innings from MD Johnson and a late-inning outburst, the Sky Carp won their third straight game on Wednesday night, defeating Peoria 8-1 at Dozer Park.
After going down 1-2-3 against rehabbing St. Louis Cardinal Drew VerHagen in the first, Beloit pushed across runs in the second and third against Dionys Rodriguez.
Davis Bradshaw started the scoring with a bloop RBI single in the second, and Marcus Chiu followed with a long solo homer to left to make it 2-0 in the third.
On the other side of the scorecard, the Chiefs worked Johnson for a lot of long counts, but Johnson won most the battles - allowing just two hits and one walk in his five-inning outing.
Todd Lott hit another homer- his third of the series and eighth career against Beloit- in the sixth for Peoria's only run.
Much like Monday's 11-3 win, Beloit piled up runs late.
The Sky Carp struck for four runs in the seventh, thanks to RBI knocks from Nasim Nunez and Ynmanol Marinez. Then, in the ninth, Beloit added two more to push the lead to 8-1.
Justin Evans retired all six batters he faced in the final two innings of the contest to nail down the victory.
The six-game series between Beloit and Peoria continues Thursday night at 6:35, as Pat Monteverde takes the mound for the Sky Carp. Fans can tune into the action for free using the Big Radio app.
