Greenville Drive News Release

After the air quality was deemed too much to play through and postponing Thursday's game, the Greenville Drive (30-24) battled through a pitcher's duel Friday, plating three runners in the sixth inning to blank the Brooklyn Cyclones (23-30), 3-0.

It was pitcher's duel through and through Friday night as both starters cruised from the bump. Drive starter Hunter Dobbins has found his stride as of late, posting his second scoreless outing in his last three starts. This time he'd go seven innings, issue no walks and fan eight Cyclones batters to bolster the Drive's victory.

On the flipside, the Cyclones kept Drive bats at bay for most of the night, combining for 17 strikeouts which included career strikeout nights for two Brooklyn pitchers. Brooklyn starter Christian Scott cruised through five innings, allowing only two hits, one walk, and pick up a career-high nine strikeouts.

But his nearly flawless five innings would give way to a rocky sixth for Cyclones reliever Michael Krauza. Eddinson Paulino led off the sixth with a walk before stealing second and setting up Blaze Jordan who connected for a single to put runners on the corners. Bryan Gonzalez knocked a two-run RBI-double two pitches later giving the Drive a 2-0 lead.

Tyler Miller added to the lead during the ensuing at-bat, slapping a single through the middle of the infield, giving Greenville the 3-0 lead as Gonzalez scored from second. The runs chased Krauza out of the game, giving way to reliever Paul Gervase. Gervase would pick up Krauza from there, tossing three innings, picking up six strikeouts to hold Drive batters from adding any insurance runs.

Dobbins continued his masterful performance into the seventh, shutting the door on the Cyclones before giving way to Nate Tellier in the eighth. Tellier would continue Dobbins' dominance, picking up two strikeouts in his lone inning of work to keep the Drive lead at 3-0.

Robert Kwiatkowski slammed the door in the bottom of the ninth for the Drive, picking up his fourth save of the year by going 1-2-3 with a strikeout to close the game for the Drive, 3-0.

The Drive (Boston Red Sox) return to action tomorrow against the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) for a doubleheader that includes a make-up of Thursday's postponement. The first game of the twin bill is scheduled for 4 p.m. with game two beginning no earlier than 7 p.m. The series in Brooklyn currently sits 2-1 in favor of the Drive.
