Dillas fall 10-4 to Colts; Roadrunners loss clinches regular-season title

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas were dominated by the San Angelo Colts 10-3 at Foster Field on Sunday night. But, that didn't matter since the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners 13-2 in game one of their doubleheader. With the win, the WhiteWings clinch a playoff spot and the Dillas clinch the United League Regular-Season title.
Dillas starter Ralph Roberts (6-5) got the loss, giving up 10 runs off 16 hits striking out 11 batters in seven innings of work. Colts starter Gorman Romero (7-0) got the win, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out six in seven innings.
The Colts scored early and often against the Dillas as homeruns by Ronnie Gaines and Jason Crosland book-ended the first inning for a four-run lead.
San Angelo added two more in the second as Mark Ramos hit a two-RBI single to score Gaines and Stephen Yoo, while they scored twive more in the third on an error and a Gaines RBI double for an 8-0 lead.
Amarillo got their first run in the seventh as Stephen Douglas led off with a double and came across on an RBI single by Brian Bueno for an 8-1 deficit.
The Colts Landon Camp hit a two-run homerun in the seventh to move them up by nine, while the Dillas got another run in the eighth. Adam De La Garza led off with a walk, went to third on a Joaquin Rodriguez single and scored on a Carlos Figueroa sacrifice fly for a 10-2 score.
The Dillas got a pinch-hit solo homerun from Andrew Wong in the ninth, while De La Garza hit an RBI double to score Jermel Lomack but fell by the score of 10-4.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 52-38 while the Colts improve to 45-46. Monday, Amarillo will travel take on San Angelo for the final game of the regular season and the final game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
