
Roadrunners Split Doubleheader, Snap Streak

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners split the doubleheader with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings after a 13-2 loss in game one and a 9-0 victory in game two Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
In game one, Luany Sanchez got the scoring started for the WhiteWings in the top of the first with a solo home run off of Tim Haines (3-10).
The Roadrunners (49-39) answered in the bottom of the first against Misael DeJesus (9-5). Felix Molina hit a one-out double to the left field wall. After back-to-back walks to Nelson Teilon and Daryl Jones, Molina came into score on a sacrifice fly tying the game at one.
RGV had three straight RBI doubles to highlight a five run inning and sent 10 hitters to the plate giving the WhiteWings the 6-1 lead.
Back-to-back singles by Molina and Teilon started the bottom of the third for the Roadrunners. After another walk to Jones, Batista hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Molina to score making it 6-2 WhiteWings.
That would be it against DeJesus who pitched six innings allowing two runs on six hit while striking out five.
The WhiteWings (47-44) added three runs in the top of the fifth, two in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh extending their lead 13-2.
Ruben De La Rosa pitched a scoreless seventh to give RGV the 13-2 victory in game one.
In game two, the Roadrunners (50-39) got the scoring started in the bottom of the second against RGV starter Tate Kelly (0-1). Osiel Flores hit a two out single to left field and then stole second base. Eddie Wilson then hit an RBI double scoring Flores from second. Albert Gonzalez followed with an RBI single that allowed Wilson to score making it 2-0 Edinburg.
Nelson Teilon added on to the Roadrunners' lead with his eighth home run of the season which made it 3-0.
Edinburg added a run in the bottom of the fifth after Robert Matlock hit an RBI double scoring Gonzalez from second extending their lead 4-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Roadrunners scored five runs on five hits against Kelly. The inning was highlighted by Felix Molina's two-run home run to right field making it 9-0.
Julio Castro struck out the side in the top of the seventh to give Edinburg the 9-0 win.
Mark DiBernardo (9-5) and Ricardo Serrano held the WhiteWings (47-45) scoreless in a combined two and two-third innings of relief.
The Roadrunners have the day off on Monday but will start the 2010 United League Playoffs on Tuesday August 31.
