San Angelo Colts News Release

Making his first start of the season, Colts pitcher Gorman Romero went seven innings of one-run ball while allowing only four hits and striking out six in San Angelo's 10-4 win over Amarillo on Sunday night at Foster Field.

The win was dampened however, as the Rio Grande Valley White Wings clinched the ULB's final playoff spot with a 13-2 win over the Edinburg Roadrunners in game one of a doubleheader at Edinburg, eliminating the Colts from playoff contention.

San Angelo would score early and often off of Amarillo starter Ralph Roberts as they put eight runs on the board through the game's first three innings.

The Colts scored four in the first as centerfielder Ronnie Gaines led off the inning by belting his 10th homer of the year, a solo shot, to give the Colts a 1-0 lead.

After second-baseman Mark Ramos scored on a wild pitch, leftfielder Jason Crosland tied a San Angelo record for homers in a single season by smacking his 25th round-tripper of the year over the leftfield wall.

The homerun was a two-run shot and it gave the Colts a 4-0 lead.

San Angelo kept it rolling by plating two more runs in the second on a two-run single by second-baseman Mark Ramos.

They would add another two runs in the third as a fielding error by Amarillo shortstop Joaquin Rodriguez scored first-baseman Josh Collazo from third, and an RBI double by Gaines gave the Colts an 8-0 lead.

The Dillas finally got on the board in the seventh on an RBI single by catcher Brian Bueno before the Colts responded with a two-run homer from third-baseman Landon Camp to extend San Angelo's lead to the biggest of the night at 10-1.

Amarillo scored the game's final three runs as they pushed a run across in the eighth on a sac-fly by designated hitter Carlos Figueroa to make the score 10-2.

They added two runs in the ninth on a solo-homer from pinch-hitter Andrew Wong (2) and an RBI double from leftfielder Adam De La Garza for the final count of 10-4.

Leading the way for San Angelo was Gaines who went 3-5 with a homer, single, and double along with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.

Ramos and leftfielder Alex Fernandez each had three hits, with Ramos also driving in two runs, while Camp went 2-4 with his homer and two RBI.

No one had more than one hit for the Dillas who captured the ULB's regular season crown by way of the second-place Roadrunners' loss to the White Wings.

With the win, Romero finished his rookie season with a perfect 7-0 record with one save.

Roberts (6-5) took the loss for Amarillo as he allowed ten runs on 13 hits in seven innings of work, though he astonishingly struck out 11 San Angelo hitters in the process.

The Colts will close out their 2010 season on Monday with a 7:05 first-pitch in game three of their three-game series with the Dillas.

The Colts will try to finish the season above .500 as they send out southpaw Logan Williamson (3-2, 3.89 ERA) against Amarillo lefty Chris Ingoglia (4-2, 6.71 ERA).

Monday's game will be followed by a fireworks show courtesy of Bank of America and Foster Communications.

The broadcast of the game begins with the Kemps Pregame Show at 6:50 and can be heard on 1260 KKSA.
