The Cedar Rapids Kernels announced today that RHP Amalio Diaz and RHP Robert Romero have been placed on the DL and that RHP Brok Butcher and RHP Darren O'Day will join the Kernels from Orem of the Pioneer League.
Diaz joined the Kernels on July 15 and has yet to appear in a game. He is sidelined with a sprained knee and is being placed on the DL retroactive to July 17.
Romero joined the Kernels back on April 22 and has appeared in 22 games for the Kernels with an 0-3 record and 3.24 ERA. Robert is being placed on the DL retroactive to July 20 with an undisclosed injury.
Butcher started the season in Cedar Rapids but was placed on the DL back on May 26. He was reassigned to Tempe where he started four games in the Arizona League with a 1-0 record and 1.56 ERA. He pitched one game for Orem going five innings and giving up six hits and five runs with three walks. Prior to being placed on the DL, Butcher pitched in nine games for the Kernels with a 1-0 record and 5.17 ERA.
RHP Darren O'Day was signed by the Angels in 2006 as a non-drafted free agent and assigned to Orem. He has pitched in 14 games for the Owlz with a 0-1 record, 2.51 ERA and seven saves.
Butcher and O'Day will join the Kernels on Saturday night in Davenport and be active for Saturday's doubleheader with the Swing.
