El Paso Diablos News Release

Josh Neitz threw eight strong innings as the El Paso Diablos won their third straight game, 6-2 over the Coastal Bend Aviators on Thursday night from Cohen Stadium.

El Paso got the offense going early in the first inning. With one out, Kory Drew doubled to deep left field. Juan Camacho then drove him in with a line drive RBI single making it 1-0.

Aviators starter Bryan Heaston recovered after the first frame. He set down El Paso 1-2-3 in the second, third, and fourth innings and retired 11 straight batters.

Josh Neitz got himself out of a big jam in the top of the fourth. J.D Foust and Juan Figueroa reached base on back to back at bats with only one out. Neitz was not phased and set down Bryon Smith on a fly out and struck out Grant Richardson to escape the inning unscathed.

El Paso made Coastal Bend pay for shaky defense in the bottom of the sixth inning. Albenis Machado led off with a walk. Kory Drew then came up to the plate and dropped down a bunt, Bryan Heaston fielded it and threw the ball over the first basemen's head, moving Machado to third and Drew to second. Jorge Alvarez came up big, as he singled both home to give El Paso a 3-0 cushion.

El Paso blew the game wide open with a three run bottom of the seventh. El Paso scored three runs on two hits, including another two-RBI single from Jorge Alvarez.

Coastal Bend ruined Josh Neitz's bid at a shutout in the top of the 8th. With two outs, Coastal Bend had three straight hits, including a two RBI double off the bat of J.D Foust which set the score at 6-2.

Evan Neiser came in and threw a perfect ninth to preserve the victory for the Diablos.

Josh Neitz (1-1) did very well in his second start of the season. He threw eight full, and allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Bryan Heaston (0-1) picks up the loss. Heaston threw six and one third innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The El Paso Diablos will square off with the Coastal Bend Aviators for the second straight night on Friday night at 7:05 pm. Charles O'Neal will throw for El Paso against Eric Domangue. The game will be broadcast live on www.diablos.com.
