Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports defeated the Pensacola Pelicans 6-1 Thursday at Fair Grounds Field in the first game of the four-game series.
Juan Ventura of the Sports broke up a scoreless game in the fifth inning with a triple to center field that scored Bryan Cooksey and Ryan Hamilton with the first two runs of the game. Ventura ended up with three hits with a single and double besides the triple. J.P. Schmidt and Justin Humphries also had RBI's in the inning as the Sports stretched the lead to 4-0. Shreveport righthander Matt Yeatman pitched seven innings to record his first victory of the season.
The Sports and Pensacola will meet Friday in the second game of the series. Game time 7:05 pm with the broadcast on shreveportsports.com click on team line.
