Diablos Settle For Series Split As Saltdogs Take Finale

July 15, 2012 - American Association (AA)
El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX- The Diablos could not muster enough offense against a trio of Lincoln Saltdogs hurlers as the hometown 'Dogs took the series finale at Haymarket Park, winning by a final of 4-2 in front of 3,359 fans.

El Paso scored one run each in the first and ninth innings but were completely shut down in between as Lincoln starter Wade Mackey (4-0) pitched seven solid innings, allowing seven hits and striking out two while issuing zero walks.

The Diablos scored first on Welington Dotel's RBI single in the opening inning, and El Paso starter Freddy Flores made it stand until the fifth. Flores pitched well for the fourth consecutive time, but wasn't helped with any run support and took a no-decision after allowing one run in six innings.

Tied at one into the seventh, Lincoln finally forged ahead with three runs in that frame off reliever Justin Harper (0-1) to take a 4-1 lead into the ninth. Closer P.J. Zocchi allowed a ninth inning run on a groundout by Patrick Arlis, but nothing further, earning his 12th save of 2012.

The Diablos fall to 20-33 with the loss heading into a three game series with their division rivals, the Amarillo Sox. First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. (MST).
