Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City-----Kris Sanchez's three-run home run, his 9th of the season, gave the Explorers a 3-2 win over Sioux Falls in the final game of the four-game series here at Lewis and Clark Park Sunday. The three-run shot, was an opposite field home run to left center and it came in the fifth inning with two out off losing pitcher Peter Gehle (4-5).
Besides the home run by Sanchez, his second hit of the game and his fifth RBI of the series, Nick Schumacher pitched seven innings, striking out a season high nine batters in posting his first win since coming off the disabled list on July 4th. Schumacher gave up one run in the first and a solo home run to Cesar Nicolas in the fourth and besides that, he shut down the Pheasants as he picked up his fifth win of the year. Chris Bodishbaugh came in the ninth and retired Sioux Falls in 1-2-3 order in recording his 11th save of the season. After losing the first two games of the series, the Explorers came back and won the final two games and have now won seven of the 11 games this season in the !-29 series from Sioux Falls.
The Explorers will begin a three-game series Monday at Kansas City. After an off-day Thursday, the Explorers will host St. Paul in a four-game series at Lewis and Clark Park starting Friday.
