Laredo Lemurs News Release

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (23-31) struggles continue at the plate as they lose to the Wichita Wingnuts (34-21) 2-1 on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Both starting pitchers came out of the gate firing as they both went seven complete innings without giving up a run.

Wichita Wingnuts starting pitcher Josh Lowey (9-2) went seven, giving up three hits, walking three, and striking out five to earn the win.

Lemurs starting pitcher Kyle Wilson (0-1) took the losss in his second appearance, as he threw seven and two thirds, giving up two runs, on five hits, walking four, and striking out four.

The Wingnuts got on the board in the eighth against Wilson with a one out homerun off the bat of Ryan Cory to put the nuts up 1-0. The innings would continue with John Rodriguez reaching on a single. That's when Lemurs manager Pete Incaviglia would make a move to the bullpen to bring in Chaz Roe. Roe hit the first batter he faced, putting runners on first and second. Gerado Avila would then single to drive in Rodriguez and give the Wingnuts a 2-0 lead.

The Lemurs scored in the bottom of the eighth, with Stephen Douglas picking up a one out triple to left center. Javier Brito followed that up with sac fly to center, to bring Douglas home from third, to make it a 2-1 game in favor of the Wingnuts.

Before the Lemurs scored their run in the eighth, they had not scored a run in 31 1/3 innings of play, going back to the third inning of the second game in the most recent series with the Amarillo Sox. That was the longest scoreless drought for the Lemurs this season.

The Lemurs will continue to face the Wichita Wingnuts at Uni-Trade Stadium tomorrow and Tuesday night before going back on the road. You can get tickets at the Laredo Lemurs box office, online at www.laredolemurs.com, or by phone at 956-7LEMURS. All games at Uni-Trade Stadium are set for 7:30pm.
