
Diablos Offense Errupts to Beat T-Bones

El Paso, TX - The El Paso Diablos looked to end their three-game losing streak as they sent El Paso's own Josh Blanco to the mound. Blanco was effective enough in three innings while getting help from his offense to fuel El Paso to an 11-5 victory against Kansas City on Sunday night at Cohen Stadium.
The Diablos (1-3) pitching staff was dominant in the victory. Blanco (1-0) pitched only three innings, but in those three innings he allowed four runs, one of those runs was earned while striking out seven. He did have control problems as he walked five but managed to pitch out of jams.
El Paso's bullpen was sharp as Alfredo Caballero came in and shut down the T-Bones offense in three innings of relief. Caballero pitched shut out baseball allowing no hits or runs while walking two and striking out three. Pitchers Juan Medina and Scott Vander Wag came in and closed out the game for the Diablos.
The Diablos offense came out swinging as they got to Reid Santos (0-1) early and often. El Paso scored three in the first and three in the second off of Santos. Santos allowed nine runs, seven of them earned on 12 hits before being chased after 3.1.
El Paso's 1-4 batters did the most damage in the game. They went a combined 10-18 with four RBI and seven runs scored. Albenis Machado went 2-4, Arnoldo Ponce went 3-5 with a triple and two RBI. Chad Gabriel went 2-5 with an RBI and Kyle Nichols busted out of his slump going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
The Diablos pushed across 11 runs on 18 hits, while they limited Kansas City to five runs on seven hits. El Paso's pitchers managed to shut down the T-Bones most dangerous hitters in Rico Washington and Ray Sadler. Both hitters went a combined 1-7 with only two RBI.
El Paso will open up a three game series tomorrow night at 7:05 against the Amarillo Sox before heading out of town to Wichita on Friday. Tomorrow night is Miner Mania at Cohen Stadium. Fans that either wear a UTEP shirt or show their student or staff I.D. will get into the game for free. It will also be dollar beer night at the park for those with UTEP I.D.
