Wednesday, DEVILS 4 vs. Bears 1

Goaltender Dave Caruso was 2:22 from his first AHL shutout, but still made 40 saves to lead Lowell to a 4-1 win over Hershey at the Tsongas Arena. After a scoreless two periods, Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre scored on the breakaway at 6:29 for a 1-0 Devils lead. Ivan Khomutov notched the eventual game-winner just 1:02 later, while Mark Fraser added his first of the season to up the score to 3-0. Kyle Wilson provided the only blemish on Caruso's stat sheet, scoring at 17:28 of the third. Mike Pandolfo capped off the contest with an empty-net power play goal. Lowell was perfect on three penalty kill opportunities.

Friday, FALCONS 4 vs. Devils 2

Down by four, the Devils got two third-period goals from their captain, Stephen Gionta, but could not complete the comeback in a 4-2 loss to the Falcons at the MassMutual Center. Already trailing 1-0, Lowell fell further behind as Springfield scored on three of the five shots they managed in the second period. Despite firing 21 shots in the middle frame, the Devils could not get one past Dimitri Patzold. Gionta eventually solved the Falcons' goaltender at 3:32 and 16:02 of the third, but Lowell could not get any closer. Frank Doyle stopped 9-of-12 in 32:07 of work, while Dave Caruso made 12-of-13 saves in relief. !

Saturday, DEVILS 3 vs. Sharks 2 (SO)

The Devils made it 3-for-3 going past regulation this season against the Sharks with a 3-2 shootout victory at the DCU Center. Tied 1-1 in the third period, Lowell took the lead with its second power play goal of the night, potted by Rosario Ruggeri at 8:55. Graham Mink forced overtime when he knotted it up with just 2:58 left in the contest. Though both teams would score in the first round of the shootout, Dave Caruso would stop the remaining four shooters and Mike Pandolfo would notch the clincher for the Devils. Petr Vrana registered Lowell'! s first power play goal of the night, as his team was 2-for-4 on the man-advantage.

Coming Up

The Lowell Devils play both of their games this week at the Tsongas Arena against the two teams directly above them in the standings. On Friday, March 14, the Devils will face Worcester for the second time in as many games. This will be the eighth meeting of the ten-game season series. The Sharks gained points in three of their four games last week (1-1-0-2) to help keep pace with Manchester and Springfield for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. The Devils took a 4-3-0-0 lead in the season series versus the Sharks with their 3-2 shootout win on Saturday.

Lowell gets a day off on Saturday before hosting the Manchester Monarchs for a matinee on Sunday, March 16. The Monarchs were winless in both of their contests last weekend, but sit just six points behind the fourth-place Springfield Falcons. The Devils have won three in row against Manchester, outscoring them by a 16-7 margin. Lowell leads the season series 7-1-0-0, while Benoit Mondou has totaled 10 points (3g, 7a) in five games versus Manchester this season.

Who's Hot

Goaltender Dave Caruso went 2-0-0-0 in three appearances last week. The rookie netminder has won four straight starts and is 5-0-1-0 since being recalled from Trenton (ECHL) on February 13. During that stretch he has posted a 1.85 goals against average and a .943 save percentage.
