Devils Rally to Beat Royals, 5-2

Reading, PA - Ryan Ginand had a goal and an assist, Taylor Vichorek provided his first-career professional goal and Jeff Lerg stopped 34 of 36 shots as the Trenton Devils defeated the Reading Royals, 5-2, at Sovereign Center in Reading Friday night.
After scoring three unanswered goals to win against the Devils Wednesday night, the Royals jumped out to 1-0 lead when Yannick Riendeau scored 1:37 into the first period for his first goal with Reading after being assigned to the Royals from Providence (AHL) earlier this week. The Devils quickly answered back 2:17 later when Jeremy Akeson forced his second goal of the season through Royals goaltender Matt Dalton to tie the score off feed from the right goal line by Tony Zancanaro, whose helper was his seventh assist of the season. But the Devils didn't gain momentum from their game-tying score as the Royals again took a one-goal lead when former Devil Eric Castonguay scored his second goal in a Reading uniform, assisted by Riendeau, who tallied his second point of the night on Castonguay's marker.
The Devils again tied the score with Ryan Hayes blasting a one-time feed from Ryan Ginand past the lower stick-side of Matt Dalton to notch his fourth goal of the season. Darcy Zajac also recorded his fourth assist of the season on the play which tied the score with 7:10 remaining in the second period. The Devils broke the back-and-forth scoring trend, taking their first lead with six seconds remaining in the second period. Darcy Zajac won an offensive zone face-off following a Reading icing, and the puck came back to T.J. Miller at the left point. His hard shot was stopped by Dalton, but Ryan Ginand banged home a second rebound for his third goal and 10th point of the season, making the score 3-2.
T.J. Miller added another assist 2:24 into the third period on Taylor Vichorek's first-career professional goal to give Trenton a two-goal lead, 4-2. Behind by two goals, the Royals frantically fought back in an effort to extend their five-game winning streak by outshooting the Devils 14-9 in the third period, but goaltender Jeff Lerg made big stops in big moments to maintain the Devils' lead, including two stellar glove saves and a remarkable split save. After Reading pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker late in the third period, Gord Burnett put the game away for Trenton by hitting the empty cage from deep within his defensive zone, his second goal in two-games this season.
Winning 5-2, the Devils snap their two-game losing streak and improve to 5-5-0-1 while the Royals drop to 8-6-0-0. With their season-series tied at two, the Devils and Royals will next battle December 4 at the Sun National Bank Center. Trenton is back in action Saturday night at home against the Elmira Jackals at 7:00 p.m.
