Aces Take Overtime Contest In Utah

West Valley City, Utah - The Alaska Aces (8-4-1-0) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (7-3-2-1) 5-4 in overtime Friday night at Maverik Center before 7,887 fans.

Utah built a 3-0 lead through the first half of the game before Alaska roared back to take an 18 second 4-3 lead. Jason Fredricks hacked home a lose puck in the crease on the ensuing rush following the face-off to tie the game back at four with 9:27 left in regulation.

Kevin Deeth gave Utah a 1-0 lead 11:01 into the first period on a centering attempt by Tim Crowder as the rush was started by his brother Paul Crowder.

Utah took a 2-0 lead 2:16 into the second period on a power-play goal scored by Tim Crowder as Brent Gauvreau navigated the circles and fed the backdoor goal.

The Grizzlies made it 3-0 at 10:11 of the period as Riley Emmerson fed Chris Donovan from the neutral zone. Donovan found Marcus Carroll on a circle to circle pass to give Utah a 3-0 lead.

Tim Crowder led Utah with one goal and one assist along with Paul Crowder who had two assists and Kevin Deeth's one goal and one assist.

Alaska's Bryan Miller scored a four-on-three power-play goal 28 seconds into the extra frame to give the Aces the win in a battle of the top two teams in the Mountain Division.

Utah and the Alaska complete their series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Fans who present military identification Saturday will receive a $5 game ticket. The Army will also present gift bags to the first 500 fans that enter the arena.
