Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club won in Norfolk and at home against Bridgeport this past week, and lost a road game in Rochester and a home date with Charlotte. A 2-2-0-0 week leaves HERSHEY in second place in the East Division standings, four points ahead of third place Charlotte, and 10 points back of first place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Another busy week awaits the Chocolate and White, with four more games to round out the month of February. HERSHEY will travel to Toronto Wednesday to play the Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum and to Cleveland Thursday to face the Lake Erie Monsters. Albany comes to town Saturday for the only home game of the week at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. The BEARS will play in Bridgeport Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. to wrap up the month of February. The game in Bridgeport wraps up a stretch of 15 games in 24 nights for the BEARS.
HERSHEY will also play five road games in the first 12 days of March as the 2010-11 regular season starts to wind down.
Two more huge crowds: The BEARS hosted Bridgeport and Charlotte at Giant Center this past weekend, and drew 21,172 fans through the gates in less than 24 hours. Saturday ¬â¢s game against the Sound Tigers brought 10,742 spectators along HERSHEYPARK Drive, and Sunday ¬â¢s game against Charlotte brought another 10,430 witnesses.
Knocking on 20 ¬â¢s door: Veteran left wing Boyd Kane picked up two goals Saturday in a 6-4 win over Bridgeport. Kane enters the new week with 18 goals, leaving him two short of reaching the 20-goal plateau. Three other HERSHEY skaters (Willsie, Gordon, Greentree) have already potted 20 or more goals in 2010-11.
Pinizzotto with a career best: Right wing Steve Pinizzotto scored two goals Saturday in HERSHEY ¬â¢S 6-4 win over Bridgeport at Giant Center, giving him 14 goals on the season. The 14 goals represents a new career high for Pinizzotto, who scored 13 in 62 games last season.
Down the stretch they come: Saturday ¬â¢s home game against Albany is the three-quarter mark of the 2010-11 regular season. HERSHEY will have 20 games remaining of an 80 game schedule after Saturday ¬â¢s game.
Holtby returns: Goaltender Braden Holtby returned to the lineup Saturday for the first time since January 29, and defeated Bridgeport 6-4. Holtby dressed in Friday ¬â¢s game at Rochester, but backed up Todd Ford in the game. With Holtby healthy, the BEARS on Thursday assigned goaltender Jared DeMichiel to South Carolina (ECHL).
Practice schedule: The BEARS hit the ice on Thursday at Giant Center Tuesday for practice at 9:30 a.m., with media availability at approximately 11:00 a.m.
