Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays dropped their second straight contest to Burlington in today's matinee. The final score was 8-1.

The Bees banged around Rays' starter Jason Cayton for six runs (five earned) on six hits in Cayton's four frames of work. Cayton hurt himself with four walks. Burlington ran out to a 6-0 lead after four innings.

The Rays finally got on the board in the 6th when J.T. Hall led off with a triple. Burlington's starter, Chris Nicoll (5/1IP, ER, 2H, 2BB, 7K) was lifted in favor of Yovany Damico. On Damico's first pitch, the ball flew out of his right hand toward third base. The balk brought in Hall for the Rays' only run.

Reliever Drew Bigda was scored upon twice in the eighth inning, bringing about the final margin.

Rays' righty Billy Evers was solid out of the pen, tossing three shutout, no-hit stanzas.

Hall collected two of the Devil Rays' four hits, including a double and triple. Rhyne Hughes extended his hitting streak to nine games with a sixth-inning single.

The defeat drops the Rays to 8-12 on the season. Burlington visits again on Thursday for a 6:35 start. It's the first Thirsty Thursday of the season, featuring dollar beverages and live music from Hazy Jane in the TDS Metrocom Leftfield after the game. Thirsty Thursday is presented by Super Rock 104.9.
