
Dessau Dazzles with Arm & Bat

Led by starting pitcher Erik Dessau the Calgary Vipers defeated the Tijuana Big Horn Sheep 9-2 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. On the mound Dessau (3-2) threw six innings allowing two runs while at the plate the pitcher collected two hits including two runs batted in and two runs scored. With the victory the Vipers improved to 2-1 on the second half and 25-21 overall on the Golden Baseball League season.
Also on the mound Daniel Morari, James LoPresti, and Claudio Galva tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
In the bottom of the first inning Calgary scored when Brent Metheny doubled and Julio Ramirez hit his tenth home run of the season for a 2-0 lead.
The Vipers added to the lead in the second frame as Caonabo Cosme walked, Guillermo Reyes singled, Luis Taveras advanced both runners with a fly out, Dessau plated two with a base hit, Jonny Kaplan singled, and after a wild pitch moved Dessau to third base he scored on a Jorge Mejia sacrifice fly for a 5-0 advantage.
Tijuana got a run back in the third when Odie Davis singled, Mark Samuelson walked, and Carlos Domingues collected a RBI base knock for a 5-1 score.
Calgary scored two runs in the fourth inning for a 7-1 lead as Dessau doubled, Kaplan singled in a run, Mejia also singled and stayed in a rundown between first and second base long enough for Kaplan to score.
Metheny led off the fifth frame with his sixth long ball of the season for a 8-1 Snakes advantage.
Another run scored in the sixth for Calgary when Kaplan singled and scored on a Mejia RBI double for a 9-1 lead.
The Big Horn Sheep got one run back in the seventh inning for a 9-2 score as Michael Surina and Davis singled, Samuelson walked, and Surina scored when Domingues grounded into a double-play.
The Vipers continue this series in Calgary at Foothills Stadium on Saturday July 17th at 5:05 PM MDT with Country Day and Sunday July 18th at 1:35 PM MDT with Family Day against the Tijuana Big Horn Sheep.
