Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that they have purchased the contract of Tim Rodriguez (OF) from the Yuma Scorpions. The 2010 Golden Baseball League All-Star will join the Seals in the midst of this weekend's series against the Chico Outlaws in northern California.
"Roxann Bury and myself worked tirelessly over the All-Star Break to try and land a player of this calibre," said Seals President Darren Parker. "We are very confident that Tim will be the offensive catalyst we are looking for in the middle of the lineup, and will really help our team's playoff push."
Rodriguez, a native of Portland, Oregon, joins the Seals after posting 52 hits in 41 games for the Scorpions. His 51 runs batted in, good enough for second in the Golden Baseball League, go with a .349 batting average and six home runs this season to put the former Texas Rangers draft pick is en route to setting career highs in all offensive categories.
Marking his professional debut in 2006, Rodriguez reached A+ ball with the Bakersfield Blaze in 2009 where the Mount Hood Community College graduate posted a .260 batting average over the course of 34 games in the California League.
In order to open a roster position for Rodriguez, Victoria also released Mike Mooney (OF) today. The San Francisco, Calfornia product had nine hits in 37 at bats for the Seals since joining the club in June.
The Seals will now try to keep the ball rolling into the second half of the season with game two against the Outlaws tomorrow night, a 7:00 p.m. (PT) start time from Nettleton Stadium. The game will not be broadcast on the Victoria Seals Radio Network, but will be available via online webcast at http://www.justin.tv/chicooutlawsbaseball.
