Des Moines Shuts out Tri-City, 3-0

Kearney, Ne. - Nick MacNab made 45 saves and the Des Moines Buccaneers scored three times in the third, shutting down the Tri-City Storm, 3-0, Friday at the Viaero Center.

The Storm out shot Des Moines, 45-21. In the third period, Tri-City took 17 shots and limited Des Moines to eight, but the Bucs pounced for the game's only tallies.

Tri-City maintains a two-point edge on Lincoln for first in the Western Conference. The loss snaps the Storm's best point streak ever, 13 games (8-0-2-3).

Jake Kielly made 18 stops in a tough-luck loss. Tri-City, one win away from a Clark Cup Playoff berth, gets a chance for revenge tomorrow at Des Moines.

The Storm's heavy pressure was evident in the first two frames, with Tri-City outshooting the Bucs, 28-13, at the end of two. MacNab and Kielly battled, each making multiple sprawling crease stops. At one point late in the second, Tri-City was tripling Des Moines in shots, 27-9.

The Storm continued to hound Des Moines, but the Bucs struck at 3:30 of the third. Mark Senden scored his first USHL goal, waffling the biscuit to the right post.

The Buccaneers killed off the Storm's fourth power-play chance late in the game and proceeded to score with 1:30 left, courtesy of a breakaway goal to the right post by Zach Jordan.

With 47 seconds left, Patrick Grasso scored an empty-net goal.

The Storm treks to Des Moines to complete the home-and-home with the Bucs Saturday, March 26 at 7:05 p.m. Tri-City is home for a 2fer Tuesday, presented by Bud Light, Tuesday, March 29, at 7:05 p.m. against the Sioux City Musketeers. Enjoy $2 beers, pops and kids tickets.
