Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - Rem Pitlick scored two unanswered goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime, to set the franchise single season goal scoring record, and lift the Muskegon Lumberjacks to a 5-4 victory over the Lincoln Stars. The goal was Pitlick's 42nd of the season, surpassing Matheson Iacopelli's 2013-2014 season, where he registered 41 goals.
The top line for the Lumberjacks opened the scoring 4:18 into the first period. Matej Paulovic and Rem Pitlick found Collin Adams for his 23rd goal of the season, to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead. After jumping out to the one goal lead, Joey Daccord made 12 saves to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead after one period of play.
Lincoln leveled the game 3:16 into the second period with a power play goal from the Stars leading scorer Tanner Laczynski. Less than two minutes later, the Lumberjacks regained the lead after Logan Drevitch netted his third goal of the season. However, the Stars would counter with two unanswered goals from Mike Gillespie and Ludvig Hoff to take a one goal lead into the second intermission.
Sixteen seconds into the third period, the Lumberjacks leveled the game at three. Dante Palecco chipped the puck back to Mitch Eliot who slapped a shot on goal, and Chris Klack knocked home the rebound for his first goal since returning from injury. Three minutes later, Laczynski scored his second of the game to give Lincoln a 4-3 lead. After Adams received a five-minute major for tripping at the 13:35 mark in the third period, Tyler Irvine found Pitlick for the shorthanded game-tying goal with just over five minutes to play.
Pitlick completed the night with a game winning power play goal after he one-timed a Paulovic cross ice pass four minutes into overtime, to lift the Lumberjacks to a 5-4 victory. Muskegon is now (6-1-1) in their last eight home games, and earned at least one point in five of their last six games.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (24-23-7) will host their final home game of the season tomorrow night, when the United States National Team Developmental U17 Program (21-25-6) matches up with the Lumberjacks for the seventh time this season. Muskegon is (3-3) against the U17 program this year. The puck will drop at 7:15 p.m.
