Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Des Moines was never able to take the lead at home against the Tri-City Storm and ended up falling Friday night by a final of 6-3.

The Tri-City Storm wasted little time to get on the board with Paul Washe scoring just 1:53 into the first period. Buccaneer goaltender Jan Ruzicka was kept busy in the opening 20 minutes but he made 15 saves to keep it a one goal game as Tri-City outshot Des Moines 16-6 in the period.

The Buccaneers would counter in the second period as defenseman Alec Rauhauser fed Wyatt Bongiovanni along the right wing board, who then hit Ty Pelton-Byce striking in from the left and Pelton-Byce beat Jake Kielly at the 1:24 mark of the period to tie the game at one. Tri-City would answer in the period though with back to back goals from Brandon Duhaime at 13:52 of the 2nd and then moments later from Ben Taylor at 15:19. With 17.1 seconds left in the period Bucs leading goal scorer Zach Jordan beat the defense and was drew a penalty shot which he converted to cut the score to 3-2. It looked like Des Moines would take that momentum into the locker room but Tri-City quickly moved the puck behind the goal line where Paul Washe fed it into the crease where Jake Wahlin buried it with 5.2 seconds left to give Tri-City another 2 goal lead at 4-2.

The two teams again traded goals in short order to start the third period with Tri-City's Paul Washe scoring 1:22 into the period but the Buccaneers' Justin Howell answering just 13 seconds later. Neither team could find much offensive pressure in the third period and Tri-City's Carson meyer added an empty net goal at the 18:41 mark to make the final 6-3. Jake Kielly made 19 saves in the win while Jan Ruzicka had 30 saves while taking the loss.

Up next for the Buccaneers is a road contest with the Madison Capitols on Saturday, March 19th.
