Wheeling Nailers News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL- After an offensive explosion on Saturday night, the Wheeling Nailers played a much more defensive contest on Sunday night, as they visited the Chicago Express. Adam Ross broke a scoreless tie with 5:18 left in the third period, and Peter Delmas made that goal stand up, making 22 saves, as Wheeling blanked Chicago 2-0 at Sears Centre.
Both clubs' defenses were up to the task in the first two periods of action, as the game was scoreless at the end of 40 minutes of play. It ended up staying that way until the 14:42 mark of the third period, when the Nailers won an offensive zone face-off back to defenseman Adam Ross. Ross teed up a drive from the point, drilling it just inside of the left post, putting his team on the scoreboard. With 1:19 left in the final frame, Wheeling added an insurance marker, as Matt Schepke gained the red line on the left side, and sent the puck into the empty net, giving the Nailers their 2-0 victory.
Peter Delmas earned his first shutout of the season, and the team's third, as he was perfect on 22 shots. Allen York had one blemish for the Express on the 24 shots he faced.
The Nailers will play at home for the first time in ten games on Friday, when they welcome the Florida Everblades to Cambria County War Memorial Arena for a 7:35 face-off.
