Game Preview: Express Vs. Wheeling Today
March 4, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Preview: Chicago Express (26-22-6-4, 62pts) vs. Wheeling Nailers (32-20-3-3, 70 points)
When: Puck drops at 4:00 pm, Doors open at 3:00 pm
Where: Sears Centre Arena, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway, Hoffman Estates, IL 60192
Tonight's Matchup:
After staring at 3-1 deficit midway through the third period, the Express struck twice before the end of the frame to even the score at 3-3. The Walleye, however, prevailed in the shootout to win 4-3. It was an important point for the Express, who none-the-less lost ground on both Florida and Cincinnati who each collected two points in their respective games. A victory from Chicago today places them just one point behind Florida, who is idle, and would tie them with the Cyclones for the eighth and final playoff spot if Cincinnati loses to Toledo tonight. Wheeling, meanwhile, is playing the final game of a nine game road trip. The Nailers are playing their third game in three days and three different cities, including falling to Toledo and Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday.
Express Notes:
The Express have scored the game's first goal in back-to-back games, however have failed to come away with the full two points in either of those contests... F Pierre-Luc Faubert played in his 200th ECHL game last night... D Steven Delisle returned to the Express lineup last night, playing in his first game since January 25... The Express did not give up a power play goal for their second straight game after holding Toledo to 0/5 last night. It is the fourth time this season that Chicago has played back-to-back games without giving up a power play marker, and Chicago has never gone three straight games without surrendering a power play goal.
Recent Transactions:
D Steven Delisle was activated from the 21-day IR yesterday... G Peter Mannino was assigned to Portland (AHL) by Winnipeg (NHL) yesterday... G Tom Schaul was added as an Emergency Backup Goaltender yesterday... D Brett Motherwell was placed on the 3-IR on Tuesday... RW Tyler Donati was transferred to the 3-IR on Tuesday... LW Chad Painchaud was transferred to the 21-day IR on Tuesday... D Taylor Ellington was assigned to Chicago by Columbus on Tuesday.
