Express Blanked by Nailers 2-0
March 4, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw all 25 shots turned aside by G Peter Delmas as they fell 2-0 to the Wheeling Nailers at the Sears Centre Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Neither team got on the scoreboard in the first two periods as defense and goaltending was the story in the early going. Express G Allen York and Nailers G Peter Delmas both made several highlight reel saves to keep the game scoreless.
The Nailers finally broke through for the game's first goal, with just 5:18 left in the contest. After York made one of the best saves Chicago has seen all season long, robbing F Paul Crowder with the glove, Crowder won the ensuing faceoff back to D Adam Ross, who ripped a slap shot past York and into the back of the net. Wheeling added a final goal on an empty net with the Express pushing for the game-tying goal, as F Matt Schepke lifted a shot into the net from the neutral zone to give Wheeling the final 2-0 score.
Power plays: CHI: 0/3; WHE: 0/3
Three stars: 1. A. Ross (WHE); 2. P. Delmas (WHE); 3. A. York (CHI)
Notes:
The Express did not allow a power play goal for the third straight game, holding the Nailers to 0-3. Chicago had never previously gone more than two straight games without allowing a power play goal... Today's game was the first time that Chicago has lost in regulation when allowing exactly two goals. The Express are now 7-1-1 when surrendering exactly two goals in a game... The Express had their four game unbeaten streak at home snapped today.
Chicago hits the road for the next two games, as they battle the Kalamazoo Wings at Wings Stadium on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10. Chicago then returns home to take on the Nailers once again on Wednesday, March 14. The homestand continues against Toledo on Friday, March 16, and against the Trenton Titans on Saturday, March 17, and Sunday, March 18. Friday night is a Dollar Friday at the Sears Centre Arena, while Sunday features a skate with the team following the game. To get tickets, call the Express at 224-220-1333.
