HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- The Delmarva Shorebirds were defeated on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 8-2, completing a four-game sweep for the Hagerstown Suns. Delmarva mounted a comeback bid, but Hagerstown found an answer at every turn.

Tanner Scott made a spot start for the Shorebirds, getting through the first two innings without a hit allowed and four strikeouts. However, Hagerstown found success the second time through the order. A throwing error started the frame, then four consecutive hits brought across four runs (three earned) against Scott.

In the fifth, Delmarva cut into the Suns' lead only to see Hagerstown respond immediately. After a single by Elier Leyva and a double by Ronarsy Ledesma, Guillermo Salas collected an RBI grounder. Two walks loaded the bases, but Logan Uxa's line drive just hung in the air for Wilman Rodriguez in left field. Bryan Mejia hit a solo home run to get the run right back for Hagerstown.

Shorebirds' reliever Mike Burke pitched well in relief of Scott. Burke retired 11 of the 12 batters he faced, including four strikeouts, though his lone mistake was Mejia's solo shot. In the seventh, Delmarva took advantage of back-to-back errors by Hagerstown. A single by T.J. Olesczuk loaded the bases, and Cam Kneeland lifted a sacrifice fly for a 5-2 score. Uxa had another hard liner hit directly at the defense to end the inning.

Again, Hagerstown found a response after the seventh inning stretch. Tanner Chleborad hit the first batter, and then a pair of two-out singles brought across another run. In the eighth, Chleborad allowed two runs on RBI singles by Dale Carey and Osvaldo Abreu for the 8-2 final.

Olesczuk finished 2-for-3 with a double and walk in the Shorebirds' losing effort. Connor Bach earned the win for Hagerstown, allowing one run in five innings. Scott picked up his second loss with Delmarva in the spot start.

The Shorebirds will try to bounce back after the sweep by heading to Charleston to face the first-place West Virginia Power. Left-hander John Means (8-7, 3.49) squares off against right-hander Yeudy Garcia (10-5, 2.31) in a battle of two of the league's top 10 pitchers by ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park.
