DELMARVA, MD - For the second straight game the BlueClaws bats were baffled by a Shorebird starter, as Lakewood fell 8-4 Saturday night.

The BlueClaws (26-23) managed just one run off of Birds starter Matt Hobgood (3-4), one day after being shutout by Nathan Moreau through six innings.

Hobgood had allowed 12 runs (8 earned) in his last two starts combined, but gave up only four hits and a run in six innings Saturday. He also had six strike outs.

Hobgood's only real mistake came on a Leandro Castro solo shot with one out in the fourth.

Delmarva (22-28) built up a big lead early against BlueClaws starter Colby Shreve (3-2), scoring four times in the third inning.

Shreve only made it through 4.2 innings, allowing six hits, seven runs (four earned), walking three and striking out three.

The Shorebirds added to a 4-1 lead in the fifth, scoring three runs and chasing Shreve to make it 7-1.

The BlueClaws battled back in the seventh, as Sebastian Valle belted a three-run homer to cut the deficit to three, but that was as close as the BlueClaws would get. Delmarva added an insurance tally in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-4 final.

With the loss the BlueClaws fall into third place in the SAL North, and still trail first place Hickory by 4.5 games.

Sunday at 2:05 pm LHP Matt Way (3-4, 4.50) will look to get the BlueClaws back on track as he faces RHP Jesse Beal (3-2, 3.44).
