The Greensboro Grasshoppers broke the game open with a six-run seventh inning and defeated the Lexington Legends 10-3 Saturday night at Applebee's Park.

Greensboro scored two runs in the fourth inning on two walks followed by RBI singles by Jose Torres and Rand Smith. The Grasshoppers added two more in the fifth when Justin Bass doubled and Kyle Jensen homered to give Greensboro a 4-0 lead.

The six-run explosion in the seventh began with a walk to Austin Markel. Former Lexington Christian Academy and University of Kentucky star Chris Wade doubled, and Chad Cregar followed with another double, scoring two runs. Torres flied out, but Smith singled, sending Cregar to third. After Smith stole second, Chase Austin reached first after hitting a ground ball to third baseman Jonathan Meyer, who threw Cregar out at home for the second out as Smith went to third. Austin stole second, and Justin Bass walked to load the bases. Kyle Skipworth's double to center field scored all three runners to make the score 9-0. Skipworth came home on a base hit by Jensen.

The Legends rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth, when they sent nine men to the plate. Brian Kemp reached on a leadoff walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Miguel Arrendell singled, scoring Kemp with the Legends' first run. After Jake Goebbert walked, Martinez grounded into a force play at second. Arrendell scored from second as shortstop Torres threw low to first trying to complete a double play. Kody Hinze walked, Meyer singled to load the bases and Aaron Bray was hit by a pitch to score Martinez with the game's final run.

Greensboro starter Chad James (1-3) pitched five and one-third innings to get the win. Legends starter Juan Minaya (0-7) took the loss.

The two teams will meet again Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Applebee's Park.
