Lexington Legends News Release
A four-run sixth-inning rally keyed a Delmarva comeback as the Shorebirds completed a four-game sweep of the visiting Lexington Legends with a 5-2 victory.
Lexington took the lead in the top of the first. The Legends loaded the bases with nobody out when Jay Austin and Michael Diaz singled, and Brian Pellegrini walked. Austin scored as Ebert Rosario grounded into a double play.
The Legends added another run in the third on Austin's triple and a single by Diaz.
The Shorebirds got on the board with a run in the fifth. Tyler Kolodny and L. J. Hoes singled, and Kolodny came home on Xavier Avery's two-out single to make the score 2-1 Lexington.
Delmarva took charge with four runs in the sixth. Joe Mahoney and Ronnie Welty singled to start the inning, and both came home on a double by Elvin Polanco to give Delvmarva a 3-2 lead. Polanco went to third on shortstop Jorge De Leon's error. Tyler Kolodny's single scored Jacob Julius, who had entered the game as a pinch-runner for Polanco. After a sacrifice and infield out, Avery's single brought Kolodny home with the game's final run.
Delmarva starter Oliver Drake pitched seven innings to claim the win, his fifth of the year against six losses. Robert Bono (8-6) took the loss.
The Legends' road trip will continue in Lakewood, New Jersey with a four-game series against the Blue Claws. Game time Friday night is 7:05 p.m.
