Asheville Tourists News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Tourists took the field Thursday looking to match a season-long five-game winning streak by sweeping the Lake County Captains, but fell short in the finale, 7-2. Ethan Hollingsworth pitched well in his return to the Asheville rotation, but got tagged with the loss after being outdueled by Lake County's T.J. McFarland and the Captains' bullpen.
Lake County jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back hits to open the frame. Nate Recknagel led off with a base hit and was doubled home by Chris Nash to give the Captains the lead. Hollingsworth settled down and retired the rest of the side without incident.
The Captains struck again in the bottom of the fourth. After Hollingsworth retired the first two batters he faced, Adam Abraham legged out an infield single and John Allman blasted a two-run homerun to right-center field to make it 3-0 Lake County.
The Tourists got back in the game in the top of the sixth inning, when Scott Robinson singled to lead things off. With one out, Mike Zuanich drew a walk and Jimmy Cesario picked up a base hit, scoring Robinson to make it 3-1 Captains. With runners on first and second and Ryan Peisel at the plate, a passed ball got through catcher Adam Abraham, advancing the runners to second and third. Peisel drove a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Zuanich to make it 3-2 Lake County.
Isaiah Froneberger came on in the bottom of the sixth and retired the side for Hollingsworth, then got an out in the seventh. He then allowed an infield single to Delvi Cid and was replaced by Michael Marbry. Mark Thompson greeted Marbry with a ground-rule double to put runners on second and third with one away. Marbry struck out Donnie Webb, then walked Nate Recknagel intentionally to load the bases. Chris Nash made him pay by smacking a double into center field, scoring Cid and Thompson to give his club a 5-2 lead.
The Captains scored two more runs off Robinson Fabian in the bottom of the eighth inning on RBI singles by Daniel DeGeorge and Mark Thompson. Thompson's hit came off Adam Jorgenson, but the run was charged to Fabian.
The Tourists (14-6) will travel to Hagerstown to take on the Suns (6-14) after taking three out of four from Lake County. Asheville will have RHP Jonnathan Aristil (1-5, 5.16) going in game one against the Suns in Hagerstown, Friday night at 7:05 pm.
