Greensboro Wins Final Game of Series

Rome, GA - The Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Rome Braves 5-2 in front of 2,417 fans at State Mutual Stadium Thursday night to gain a split the four game series.

The Grasshoppers jumped out to an early lead in the third inning when Daniel Pertusati singled to center, stole second base, and scored on Jeremy Synan's RBI double giving Greensboro a 1-0 lead.

Greensboro added two more runs in the fifth as Pertusati again lead off with a single and Kevin Mattison followed with a double. A ground out from Paul Gran scored Pertusati and Synan would later double for the second time to plate Mattison. In the bottom of the fifth Rome would make it a 3-1 game as Matt Kennelly led off the inning with a double and later scored on a fielding error.

Both teams would add runs in the seventh inning. The Grasshoppers run came when Mattison singled and later came around to score on a Paul Gran ground out after stealing both second and third base. Rome's last run of the game came in the bottom half of the frame when Calvin Culver doubled off the left field wall and later scored on a ground out by Fuller giving Greensboro a 4-2 advantage.

Greensboro added one more run in the eighth and pitching held Rome for the final inning to preserve the 5-2 win.

Johnny Dorn (9-6) gets the win for Greensboro going seven innings, giving up four hits, and two runs. Randall Delgado (1-8) takes the loss for the Braves. Pete Andrelczyk earns the save (15).
