CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Hickory Crawdads won their second straight series, and third in the last four, with an 8-2 victory against the Charleston RiverDogs before 4,923 fans in a rain-shortened contest at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Thursday evening. The game was called after a 30 minute delay in the top of the eighth inning.

After a scoreless first inning, the Crawdads (13-7, 46-43) struck first with a run in the top of the second against RHP Brett Marshall (3-6). 3B Matt West ripped a double down the left field line to start the frame, and then moved to third on an infield single hit by C Doug Hogan. LF Eric Fry bounced into a double play, but scored West from third and put Hickory into the early 1-0 lead.

The RiverDogs (8-13, 47-44) managed a run against LHP Martin Perez (5-5) in the bottom of the fourth inning to momentarily tie the game, but the Crawdads bats responded right away with a four-run inning in the top of the fifth. LF Eric Fry sparked the rally with a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by 2B Mike Hollander. RF Miguel Alfonzo then brought Fry in with an RBI double to left field, before moving to third base on an infield single by SS Andres James. CF David Paisano followed with an RBI double, plating Alfonzo and pushing James to third. DH Jared Bolden capped the frame with a two-run double hit off the center field wall, making it 5-1.

Hickory kept swinging away with two more tallies in the top of the sixth inning against RHP Luke Prihoda. Fry, Hollander and Alfonzo hit three singles in a row, with Alfonzo's base hit bringing in Fry for the inning's first run. James then laid down a perfectly placed squeeze bunt to sacrifice himself and score Hollander to put Hickory ahead, 7-1.

RHP Wilfredo Boscan pitched a scoreless sixth inning after relieving Perez, who tossed five innings with only one run allowed on three hits and four strikeouts. RHP Mark Hamburger then took over in the bottom of the seventh, when Charleston struck for an unearned run to make it 7-2.

Moments before the rain started pouring down and the tarp was pulled, C Doug Hogan extended his homer streak to three straight games with a solo shot to lead off the eighth inning and account for the 8-2 final in the rain shortened contest. Perez earned his third straight victory for the Crawdads, while Marshall was tagged with the loss for Charleston.
