Arkansas Travelers News Release
Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals walked off on the Arkansas Travelers with a 3B Paul DeJong home run in the 11th inning on Thursday night at Hammons Field.
With the Travs leading 3-2 in the seventh and the Cardinals batting with men on the corners with two outs, RHP Danny Reynolds balked allowing the tying run to score.
The game remained 3-3 until the 11th when RHP Eduardo Paredes (L, 0-1) allowed the game-ending home run on an 0-2 count.
With two outs and 1B Jonathan Rodriguez on second in the 10th inning, DH Michael Ohlman singled to right, but RF Angel Rosa threw out Rodriguez at the plate to preserve the 3-3 tie.
Rosa entered the game in the sixth for Cal Towey who was lifted after crashing into the right field siderail on a catch earlier in the game.
Arkansas mustered four hits in the loss and scored two of its three runs in the third thanks to two Springfield errors.
RHP Alan Busenitz tossed two scoreless innings of relief in the ninth and 10th.
RHP Tyler Carpenter made his first start for Arkansas in 16 days. The righty worked five innings and allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Springfield starter RHP Andrew Morales tossed six innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Cardinals first baseman Luke Voit went 3-for-3 with two doubles, but was hit in the head by a Reynolds pitch in the eighth and was forced to leave the game.
With the loss, Arkansas fell to 24-35 on the season. The two teams will conclude the four-game series on Friday night at Hammons Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
