Defensive Miscues Costly for Bombers, Woodchucks

The Woodchucks took advantage of the Battle Creek Bombers costly miscues, earning two of the four runs off errors as the Woodchucks snuck away with a 4-3 win Sunday evening.
Madison Carter started things off for the Woodchucks early, as he took the Bombers starting pitcher Brian Valente deep off the first pitch in the first inning, jumpstarting the Woodchucks lead for his second homerun of the season.
The lead grew in the second inning when Joe Serrano stole third base and a throwing error on catcher Jeremy Shay allowed Serrano to score the second Woodchuck run of the evening.
The Bombers would strike in the third inning however, when Daniel Rocket drove a fly ball to shallow left field, out of the diving reach of Brad McKewon that scored Chris Sujka, but caught Colin Willis down the third baseline, trying to tie the game. Mike Bernal wouldn't have any of that as he delivered an absolute strike from left field saving the tying run at home.
Following the great defensive play, the Woodchucks looked for a few great "at bats" on offence in the bottom half of the third inning.
Little did the Woodchucks know that an error would relieve their hopes as Eric Filia- Snyder coasted home when another defensive miscue deemed costly for the Battle Creek Bombers.
On the error, catcher Jeremy Shay attempted to throw out Brendon Hayden stealing second, but no one covered the base sending the ball into the outfield as the Woodchucks jumped up two runs in the third inning.
Jeremy Shay would erase the Woodchucks lead in the sixth inning with a two run blast to dead center field, tying the game at three a piece as Adam Kramer was relieved after five and 1/3 innings pitched, giving up three runs, six strike outs, and three walks in Sunday evenings ballgame.
Bret Higginbotham came in to relieve in the middle of the sixth inning, and got out of the jam after walking Dylan Delaney, and allowing a single by Chris Sujka as the Bombers and "ËChucks entered the bottom half of the inning tied at three.
The tie did not stick for long though. With Brendon Hayden on first base after a base hit to center field, Joe Serrano stepped to the plate and doubled to the far corner in left field as Brendon Hayden came around to score the go ahead run.
The score remained the same going into the final inning of play with the Woodchucks leading 4-3. Pascal Paul would close facing the bottom two hitters of the Bombers line up followed by lead off hitter Collin Willis.
Pascal began work, striking out Dillon Moyer, and then moved to Chris Sujka and sent him back to the dugout, going back-to-back in the top of the ninth. Colin Willis came to the plate and snuck one through the gap with a single, but Pascal would end the game with help of Madison Carter on a ground out to third base as the Wisconsin Woodchucks continue their 17 straight home victory.
