Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Mequon, WI - July 29, 2012 - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-14, 23-32 overall) dropped the first of a two-game series against the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-10, 28-28 overall) Sunday evening. In a swift 2 hours and 13 minutes, in front of a record crowd of 2,503 in Mequon, Joe Greenfield spun a gemthrowing the first complete game in Chinooks history to beat the Rafters 4-2.
The right-hander was spectacular Sunday. Coming off of back-to-back starts of seven innings or more allowing no runs, Greenfield didn't allow an earned run until the ninth. The Rafters, already down 2-0, mustered an unearned run on an RBI single from Brandon Hohl (JR, Univ. of Illinois) in the second. Their next run came in the ninth.
Without All-Stars Eric Aguilera and Bre' Kimbell, who hit over .500 against the Rafters this season, the Chinooks tallied eleven hits off of Rafters pitching. Nine of them came off of Rafters starter Bo Henning (SO, Sacramento Community College) who went six innings. He allowed four runs in the first three frames but settled in and put up three zeros to end his night.
In a 4-1 game in the ninth with the Rafters down to their final strike, Austin Neary (FR, Western Carolina Univ.) blasted his sixth home run on a 3-2 curveball to make it 4-2. Greenfield got the next batter to fly out to finish off his nine-inning victory.
Cole Webb (2-2, 4.59 ERA) starts Monday for the Rafters' final game at Kapco Park this season. Webb's one start against Lakeshore was his worst outing of the year, one in which he didn't make it out of the third. Lakeshore puts arguably their best starter on the hill, Jason Hoppe (2-2, 1.86 ERA), for the first pitch Monday at 6:35 pm.
