Mallards Look to Cap Strong Month against Loggers

Madison, WI - July 28, 2012. The Madison Mallards (15-5, 31-24) continue their four game home stand by welcoming the La Crosse Loggers (11-9, 37-16) to the "Duck Pond." First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.

On Saturday the Mallards took the rubber match of their three game series with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-14, 23-32) behind a great pitching performance by starter Matt LaMothe (Georgia State). LaMothe (5-3) went 8.0 strong innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six to setup the 5-2 win.

Starting for the Mallards will be left-hander Sam Forkert (Marian). Forkert (1-2) will be making his first start since July 21st when he surrendered two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings of work during a 4-2 win over the Battle Creek Bombers (6-14, 20-35). The lefty has been a do-it-all sort this season, making 12 appearances out of the bullpen and starting three games.

Taking the ball for the Loggers is right-hander TJ Kendzora (San Diego State). Kendzora (2-1) is coming off his shortest start of the season in which he gave up six runs in 2.2 innings during a 9-1 loss to the Eau Claire Express (8-13, 19-36). The Mallards have already seen the right-hander once this season, tagging him for five runs on nine hits during a 9-8 win on June 30th.

Speeding:

Mallards center fielder John Welborn (Texas-San Antonio) has been a terror for opposing pitchers on the base paths as of late. The league leader in steals at 32, Welborn has eight stolen bases in his last four games.

Competitive Rivals:

The Loggers and Mallards have produced some memorable games already this season. Three of their six prior games have ended in walk-off fashion with the series being at three games each.

Up Next:

The Mallards wrap up their four game home stand with the second game of their four game series against the Loggers. That night will be Valpak State Fair Night and Charter Communication Team Poster Night at the ballpark.
