
Defense Wins for Vegas in Victoria, 4-1

Las Vegas, Nev-The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings Friday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Center. Kevin Schaeffer netted his first goal of the season as defensemen led the way for the Wranglers all night. Schaeffer and DelGrosso were named the first and second star of night in the win as the Wranglers tallied the first four goals of the contest. Blair Riley, Ryan Huddy and Matt Price also tallied for Las Vegas in the win. Joe Fallon turned away 24 of 25 as he improves his record to 14-7-1. Kings' goalie David Shantz takes the loss allowing four goals on 32 shots and slides to 13-15-3 on the season. Victoria managed to find the back of the net once in third period while on the power play to avoid the shutout. The loss drops the Kings to 17-23-3 on the season as they hold the last spot in the Mountain division with 37 total points. The win improves the Wranglers' record to 26-11-3 with 55 total points in 40 games played as they hold a six point lead in the Pacific division over Stockton.
The Wranglers netted the first four goals of the night including all the goals in the first and second periods. Defenseman Kevin Schaeffer found the back of the net for the first time this season at 15:25 of the first period assisted by Ryan Huddy and Tyler Mosienko to give the Wranglers the lead heading into the intermission. Las Vegas outshot Victoria 16-7 in the first period.
Las Vegas extended their lead at 14:26 of the second period with Blair Riley's ninth goal of the season assisted by Colin Long and Blake Gallagher. Ryan Huddy put Las Vegas up by three at 16:12 of the second period with his team leading nineteenth goal of the season assisted by Chris Higgins and Tyler Mosienko. Matt Price made the score 4-0 for Las Vegas at 19:08 of the second period with his second goal of the season assisted by Kevin Schaeffer. After two periods Las Vegas was leading 4-0 and had outshot Victoria 26-16.
The Salmon Kings would get on the board in the third period while on the power play to avoid the shutout but the deficit was too much to overcome. Ryan Cleaver netted his thirteenth of the season at 10:37 assisted by Tim Kraus and Ryan Turek to make the final score at the buzzer 4-1 in favor of Las Vegas.
These two teams face-off again Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at Save-On-Foods Memorial Center to finish off the weekend set. The puck drops at 7:05pm on Saturday and 1:05pm on Sunday. The Wranglers return home February 1st to host the Stockton Thunder for the first time this season.
The Las Vegas Wranglersé are the ECHL affiliate to the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes and the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage.
