Condors comeback falls short, Aces win 5-4

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Bakersfield Condors (21-19-1-1, 44pts) saw a late comeback effort fall just short as the Alaska Aces (23-15-2-0, 48pts) held on for a 5-4 win in front of 4,249 fans at Sullivan Arena on Friday Night.

RW Wes Goldie got the scoring started for Alaska when he sniped the top corner over the shoulder of G Josh Tordjman, putting the Aces up 1-0 just 1:14 into the opening period. The Aces doubled up their lead with 4:52 left in the first when D Chad Anderson hammered home a rebound. Alaska led 2-0 after the first period.

The Condors evened up the score with two goals in 21 seconds at the beginning of the middle frame. F Michael Gergen got a shot through some traffic to beat G Gerald Coleman, and his goal was followed up by F Slava Trukhno's wrister to even the score at 2-2. Goldie broke the tie with his second goal of the nice with a tricky redirection of a shot from the low slot. The scoring in the period was capped off when D Bryan Miller finished off a 3-on-2 rush, and the Aces led 4-2 after the period ended.

D Craig Gaudet opened up the third period with a blast from the left point, putting the Aces up 5-2, but the Condors came storming back to make it close. C Joel Broda collected a loose puck in front of the Aces net and flicked it home. D J.F. David poked home a shorthanded goal late in the third period to bring it into a one goal game, but the Aces held on to pick up the 5-4 victory.
