Connecticut Defenders News Release
HARRISBURG, PA- In their final meeting of the '09 regular season, the Harrisburg Senators earned a series and season split Monday night at Metro Bank Park with an 8-4 victory over Connecticut. The Defenders posted a 4-4 overall record in 8 meetings with the Sens this year.
CF-Ricardo Nanita's two run double down the right field line in the first inning set the tone for Senators as Harrisburg cruised to claim the series finale.
Connecticut finally got on the scoreboard in the third inning when 2B-Brad Boyer delivered a two out double followed by RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve's second RBI triple in four games.
Harrisburg responded in the home half of the third with a three spot of their own. After loading the bases with one out, RF-Marvin Lowrance ripped an RBI single. LF-Bill Rhinehart finished things off with a two out two run single.
The Senators added another run in the fourth when they took advantage of a 1B-Josh Phelps error that scored Spearman and drove Defenders' starter Daryl Maday (6-5) from the ballgame. Maday suffered the loss after allowing six runs-five earned off of eight hits, walked three and struck out two.
New pitcher, RHP-Mitch Lively didn't have any luck either as the Senators plated lone runs in the fifth and sixth off the reliever.
Phelps atoned for his two errors by crushing two homeruns, a two run shot in the sixth and a solo jack in the eighth but that was all the offense Connecticut would get.
Harrisburg's starter RHP-Erik Arnesen (8-5) picked up the win tossing seven strong innings allowing three earned runs off of nine hits, walked one and fanned a pair while closer RHP-Drew Storen earned his ninth save in as many opportunities.
