De Leon Gives 'Riders Series Split

San Antonio Missions News Release

Michael De Leon's go-ahead two-run single in the ninth gave Frisco a 3-1 win over San Antonio Thursday night at Wolff Stadium.

Jesse Scholtens got the start for the Missions in Thursday's series finale, looking to build on what's been a terrific start to his Double-A career. The right-hander from Fairfield, CA certainly accomplished the task, allowing just one run on three hits and two walks, while striking out a club-season high 10 over six impressive innings. Scholtens' only mistake came in the fifth when De Leon's double to left drove in the game's first run.

Normally, Scholtens would have cruised to a win, but his mound opponent, lefty Wes Benjamin, was equally dominant.

Benjamin kept the Missions off the board through six, allowing just three hits. However, in the seventh, Benjamin made a critical mistake pitch, which Rivers Stevens took over the wall in right to tie the game. It was the first dinger of the season for Stevens.

In the top of the ninth, Frisco would take the lead for good against Brad Wieck. The Missions lefty ran into immediate trouble to start the frame, walking leadoff hitter Jose Trevino and then allowing a Correlle Prime single to left. Following an out, De Leon would take a Wieck (0-2) pitch into left center field, scoring both runners.

Jeffrey Springs (2-0) worked in and out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth to lock up the series split for the RoughRiders.

San Antonio (11-9) resumes its eight-game homestand Friday with the first of four against four-time defending TL champ Midland (12-8). First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. Cal Quantrill (1-2, 3.20) will take the ball for the Missions in Friday's opener, while the RockHounds counter with fellow righty Kyle Friedrichs (1-1, 8.16). The first 2,000 fans to enter The Wolff will receive a FREE Orel Hershiser SA Dodgers Home Jersey courtesy of McCombs Ford West.

Notes: The 10 strikeouts were one shy of Scholtens' career high, which was set on April 6, 2017 at Bowling Green.
