Dayton Gems: Weekend Preview
February 25, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
The Dayton Gems will be having their last three-game home stand of the season before the regular season comes to an end on March 26.
The Gems will be hoping to turnaround their luck as they take on Evansville, Quad City and Fort Wayne at Hara Arena this weekend. Dayton has lost three straight and five of its last six games.
With the end of the regular season being just a month away, the Gems (23-22-4) are currently sitting in eighth in the Turner Conference standings. Fort Wayne is just three points ahead of the Gems in seventh place.
Scouting Report
Evansville
The IceMen have struggled lately, losing their last six games. During that stretch, Evansville has been shutout twice, including losing to Missouri 8-0 on Saturday, Feb. 20, on their home ice.
Like the Gems, Evansville has struggled to score goals during their current skid. The IceMen have only recorded three or more goals in two of their six losses heading into Friday.
The one bright spot for the IceMen has been Erik Boisvert. The former Gem scored in three straight games for Evansville from Feb. 16 - Feb. 19. He has scored a total of four points for the IceMen in eight games.
Quad City
Dayton faced the Mallards twice last week with each team walking away from Hara Arena with one win. Saturday will be the last time these two teams will face each other until the final week of the season.
Quad City has lost its last two games in close match-ups. The Mallards lost to Bloomington on Monday, Feb. 21, by a score of 3-2. They also lost to Fort Wayne last Saturday by the same score.
Their game against Fort Wayne tonight is also sure to be close one as well.
Although the final score may not have went their way recently, they Mallards have limited their opponents to three goals or less in each of the last five games.
Fort Wayne
There aren't many teams in the CHL that are much hotter than Fort Wayne right now. The Komets have won five of their last six games, including recording three shutout wins.
Two of those shutouts came against the Gems.
This game will most likely be the most challenging for Dayton this weekend. In addition to the Komets being on a hot streak right now, the Gems have lost six straight games to the Komets.
Fort Wayne hasn't struggled to score goals against the Gems lately. The Komets have scored four goals or more in four of their last six games against Dayton. On top of that, they have held to Gems to three goals or few in the same number of games.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
