FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Derek Patrosso's hat trick propelled the host Fort Wayne Komets to a 4-1 win over the Quad City Mallards Friday night.

Patrosso scored the final two goals of the evening in the third period to push the game beyond the Mallards' reach. The Komets were on the power play when Patrosso extended what had been a 2-1 Fort Wayne lead to 3-1 with a blast from the right wing circle at 7:23 of the third. He scored his third of the night from the left wing circle to make it 4-1 at 10:27.

It was also Patrosso who had gotten the Komets off to a strong start by charging into the Mallard goalmouth to finish off a 2-on-1 rush and open the scoring at 11:30 of the first period.

Sean O'Connor backhanded a rebound home to double the Fort Wayne lead at 7:18 of the second period.

The Mallards cut the gap back to a single goal at 16:58 of the second when Eric Giosa converted a 2-on-1 rush with a wrist shot from the slot, but Patrosso and the Komets would pull away in the third.

The Mallards next take to the ice tomorrow night against the Gems in Dayton. The Mallards next play at home on Saturday, March 5 at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks.
