
Bucks Sting Bees in Shootout, 4-3

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3 in a shootout Friday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks win, coupled with Arizona's overtime loss to Odessa, puts the Bucks two points behind the Sundogs for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference. Laredo improves to 18-27-7 (43 points).
Ryan Lehr scored the game-winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout to help the Bucks to their first home win since January 14th. Lehr also had the game-winning shootout goal against the Bees on October 16th.
Torrie Jung stopped 28 of 31 shots he faced as well as setting aside five of the six Killer Bees shootout attempts to get the win.
The Bucks improve to 14-1-1 this season when scoring for or more goals in a game.
The winner of Saturday's game at State Farm Arena between the Bucks and Bees will win the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup as the Bees lead the standings 18 points to 17.
The Bucks scored first for the third straight game as they took a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Laredo went up 1-0 at the 8:52 mark of the first when Jeff Hazelwood scored from right in front of the net on a two-on-one break. The goal was Hazelwood's 15th of the season and his second in as many games against the Bees.
The Bucks increased their lead to 2-0 with 9:06 left in the first period when Neil Trimm scored a breakaway shorthanded goal to pick up his 18th of the campaign. The strike was just the Bucks third shorthanded goal of the season and their first since January 15th.
Laredo outshot Rio Grande Valley 14-13 in the first period.
The Killer Bees cut the Bucks lead to 2-1 just 3:24 into the second period when Tyler Lehrke scored on a rebound from the bottom of the right circle to net his eighth of the season.
Just 17 seconds later the Bucks would increase their lead to 3-1 when Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel took a pass from Daniel Koger on an odd man rush and scored from the bottom of the left circle to score his sixth of the year. Three of Dieude-Fauvel's six goals this season have come against the Killer Bees.
Rio Grande Valley would score again to cut the Laredo lead to 3-2 with 8:25 left in the second when Tomas Klempa scored from the right circle to net his team-leading 2st of the season.
Each team put up nine shots in the second period.
Bo Cheeseman tied the game at 3-3 when he scored a rebound goal just 4:40 into the third period. Each team put up six shots in the third.
Neither team scored in overtime with each team picking up three shots. The Bucks outshot the Bees 33-31 in the game.
*BUCKS RELEASE BENNETT, SCALI ACTIAVTED*
Prior to Friday's game the Bucks released Ryan Bennett and activated Joe Scali from the 10-day IR.
Bennett, who signed with the Bucks to help out on an emergency basis, played in 17 games for the Bucks and picked up nine points (2-7=9). Bennett will continue to work in the Corpus Christi Ice Rays (NAHL) front office.
Scali, who has been on the IR multiple times this season, has played in 18 games for the Bucks and has eight points (2-6=8). Scali had not played since the Bucks 4-3 loss in Arizona on February 4th.
The Bucks and Bees will close out their regular season series Saturday night at State Farm Arena. Game time is 7:30pm.
